Index of Discomfort, 2023

Water is essential to life, it is vital. But it is also a source of destruction. According to experts, most of us will first feel the effects of climate change through water. It is water's ambivalence and unpredictability that inspires me. This installation plays on the balance between anxiety and comfort, attempting to tame water and attenuate its destructive power for the duration of an exhibition. The water is channeled, but in a relatively precarious and to a certain extent permeable installation, to give water room to express its vitality, either through its inevitable splashing or by its unpredictable changes of course on the objects it passes through

Materials: cushions, rope, rug, wood structure, vinyl tarp, rope, vinyl tubing, reusable tie wraps, steel hooks, electric pumps, water.

Installation views at the exhibition DIY Flood, CIRCA Art actuel, May 6 - June 17 2023.
