Can I Ever Catch Up, 2019
A segment of a foot made of cast aluminum, a footprint of the same foot, made of cast bronze, and a bent steel sheet plinth. The aluminum foot fits snuggly into the bronze footprint. The footprint, with its many tiny legs underneath it, is wobbling away. The foot, poised to jump from its plinth, may hit its target and fall into place into the footprint. Or will it miss? One feels compelled to complete the narrative sequence and place the aluminum foot into the bronze footprint. The pieces almost click together, and one feels a sense of completion in allowing the foot to finally catch up with the runaway footprint. But the steel plinth suggests rather an arrested motion, barring any conclusion to the suggested sequence and leaving the question of catching up with one’s footprint unanswered.
